A full skin check involves a comprehensive assessment of the skin to identify any potential signs of skin cancer. The check will take between 15 to 30 minutes. The process begins with a consultation, where the practitioner takes a detailed medical history, including any previous skin issues or family history of skin cancer.
The patient is then asked to undress to their underwear to expose even hard-to-see regions such as the scalp, back, and between the toes. We totally respect your privacy, and most skin checks will be performed with underwear on as parts of the body, such as breasts, genitals, and buttocks, are not examined regularly. However, if you believe you may have a suspicious spot in one of these areas, you may request to have it examined as a part of your skin cancer check.
The doctor uses a dermatoscope, a specialized tool that provides a magnified view of the skin, to examine moles, lesions, and any unusual spots for changes in colour, size, or texture. The Doctor may document findings with photographs and, if necessary, perform biopsies on suspicious areas for further testing. The entire procedure is carried out in a respectful and professional manner, ensuring patient comfort while prioritizing skin health and early detection of potential concerns. These skin checks are performed either six monthly or annually depending on the Doctors recommendations.
